Patricia von Blumröder

Patricia von Blumröder was born in Oakland, California. She studied piano at the University of Idaho with Richard Neher and at the University of Iowa with James Avery. She finished her studies at the Staatliche Hochschule für Musik in Freiburg, Germany. She has been living in Germany since 1980.

Patricia von Blumröder's repertoire encompasses all epoches with special emphasis on the music of the 20th century. Her contemporary repertoire ranges from the music of the New Viennese School (Arnold Schoenberg, Anton Webern, Alban Berg) by way of the French modern music (Claude Debussy, Olivier Messiaen) to the key works in post-war serial and experimental music (Karlheinz Stockhausen, Pierre Boulez, Luciano Berio, John Cage).

Her greatest passion is the presentation of 20th century music in an interesting and exciting way. The intention is to breakdown barriers and misunderstandings which are often associated with contemporary music. For example, she performed works of Claude Debussy, Bela Bartok, Olivier Messiaen and Pierre Boulez at the Berlin Festival in 1995. She has played as a guest artist at music festivals in Paris, Hamburg, Freiburg, Zagreb, Frankfurt and Berlin.

On the following pages you will find a list of her program-concepts, which can be performed in other combinations, or if desired, expanded by new pieces. Besides the pieces which are listed here she is also keenly interested in performing works of other young composers.
